Started in 1998, Arizona BookPALS is a branch of the national SAG Foundation children’s literacy program BookPALS. Arizona BookPALS places actors, performers, theater students, and retired teachers in Title I elementary schools to read aloud to classes on a weekly basis.
Now in Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, Tucson and Flagstaff, Arizona BookPALS don’t teach students to read. They teach them to learn to LOVE to read.
In addition to the BookPALS program, Arizona also has a vibrant PencilPALS program where adult mentors interact with students through written correspondence.
Volunteers give an hour a week to make a big difference in children’s lives.
